With 27 required off the final two overs, three wickets in hand and a Rabada over yet to be bowled, the odds were stacked against the Rajasthan Royals. Also, with how their innings had progressed untill then, one wouldn’t have expected RR to score 14 runs off the last over without utilizing all six deliveries.

It was Morris who was dealing only in sixes that won them the match though, there were a lot of the others who contributed to the win. Morris smashed Rabada for two sixes in the 18th over which brought the target down to 12 off the final over. The sixes struck by Morris in the final over that was bowled by Curran were against deliveries that deserved to be deposited in the stands. One was a back of the hand that was not executed perfectly as it landed short of good length and the other was a waist-high full-toss. By scoring 38 off 14 deliveries, Morris won his side their first game of the tournament.

Earlier in Rajasthan’s chase of 148, the quick bowlers reduced them to 42 for 5 on a surface where the ball was travelling to the batsmen at a good pace. The return of Rabada was an obvious boon to Delhi and with Woakes and Avesh continuing to bowl in good areas, they were right on top. RR needed someone who would take them to the end and also reduce the required run-rate.

Miller was the player who gave RR a sniff in the chase. He scored his fifty in 40 deliveries where he had to try saving his wicket and bring some stability into the innings, however, there was a 15-run thirteen over that Miller extracted from Stoinis and that was when the momentum started to build for Rajasthan.

Miller’s dismissal slimmed their hopes of winning the game untill of course, Morris displayed his power-hitting ability in the end.

Delhi’s innings had a similar start compared to that of Rajasthan. They were reduced to 36 for 3 after six overs, courtesy the guile shown by left-armers Sakariya and Unadkat, in particular. Unadkat bowled change-up and got two of his wickets of Shaw and Rahane after decieving them with his slower deliveries. Rishabh Pant did score a 51 off 32 that solidified the innings but the RR pacers continued to take pace off the ball and that was something that Mustafizur did as he was rewarded with the wickets of Stoinis and Curran. DC never looked like they would score big and lost their way in the end to finish at 147-8.

Brief Scores : DC 147-8 in 20 overs. Pant 51 (32) ; Unadkat 4-0-15-3.

RR 150-7 ( won by 3 wickets) in 19.4 overs. Miller 62 (43) ; Avesh 4-0-32-3.

Player of the match : Jaydev Unadkat
