The Delhi Capitals strolled to 189 as they won their first match of the tournament by 7 wickets.

Delhi’s new skipper, Rishabh, won a crucial toss and opted to bowl first at a venue which is highly conducive for successful run chases

Woakes and Avesh Khan were the two new ball bowlers who ran in against Gaikwad and Faf. The bowling pair was quick to dismiss the openers to good length deliveries before a returning lion, Raina, began to take on the spinners.

Raina attacked Ashwin and Mishra by dancing down the track and depositing a lot of the deliveries into the stands. His intent was positive during his 36-ball 54 that included 3 fours and 4 sixes. He was, however, unfortunate to be run out as the middle overs progressed.

Along with Raina, Ali and Rayudu made efforts to score runs at a decent strike-rate before they were dismissed.

Towards the end came the most expensive over of the first innings when Tom Curran gave away 23 runs against his brother Sam and Jadeja in the 19th over. Jadeja and Sam ensured that CSK finished strong at 188-7.

The anti-climax of the day was the moment when MS Dhoni was dismissed for nought as a lot of fan were waiting to watch him bat.

In reply to CSK’s total, Delhi smashed 65 runs for the loss of no wicket in the first six overs which carried on until the 14th over untill Shaw was dismissed by Bravo to end his 138-run opening stand with Dhawan.

Dhawan who is known for his off-side play, maximised most of his runs from the leg-side by shuffling towards his right which allowed him to play the slog sweep a lot more. His successful knock came to an end on 85.

With 1.2 overs left, Rishabh Pant and Stoinis then sealed the game for DC.
